Recommended Cycling Routes

1. Aberystwyth Promenade and Constitution Hill

Start at Aberystwyth Promenade, a flat and scenic route perfect for a leisurely ride. Cycle along the promenade, taking in the beautiful sea views. Continue towards Constitution Hill, where you can either cycle up or take the Cliff Railway. At the top, enjoy panoramic views and a visit to the Camera Obscura.


2. Rheidol Trail

Difficulty: Moderate 

Distance: 17 miles (27 km)

The Rheidol Trail offers a mix of on-road and off-road cycling, following the Rheidol Valley from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge. This trail features stunning river views, rolling countryside, and several points of interest, such as the Vale of Rheidol Railway and Devil’s Bridge Falls. The trail is mostly well-marked, but a map is recommended.


3. Borth to Ynyslas and Back

Difficulty: Easy 

Distance: 6 miles (9.7 km)

Start in Borth and cycle north towards Ynyslas. This route is mostly flat, making it perfect for families and casual cyclists. Enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery and stop at Ynyslas Sand Dunes, part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve. Take time to explore the dunes and perhaps enjoy a picnic before cycling back to Borth.


4. Nant-y-Moch Reservoir Loop

Difficulty: Challenging 

Distance: 30 miles (48 km)

For more experienced cyclists, the Nant-y-Moch Reservoir Loop offers a challenging ride with rewarding views. Starting in Aberystwyth, head east towards Ponterwyd and then north to the Nant-y-Moch Reservoir. This route includes steep climbs and descents, but the stunning landscape of the Cambrian Mountains makes it worthwhile.


5. Coastal Ride: Aberystwyth to Aberaeron

Difficulty: Moderate 

Distance: 16 miles (25.7 km)

Head south from Aberystwyth along the A487 to Aberaeron. This scenic coastal route offers beautiful views of Cardigan Bay and passes through charming villages like Llanrhystud. In Aberaeron, enjoy the picturesque harbor and perhaps a meal at one of the local eateries before heading back.
